The Ruch Ascent to Yosemite!
This poster was showcased at the 2020 Teton Science Schools PBE Symposium
In 2018, Ruch Outdoor Community School's 8th grade class completed planning a multi-day overnight backpacking trip to Yosemite National Park this June. This trip underscored our sustainability curriculum and supported the pedagogy of place-based education.
The 8th grade class worked together in small committees to make this trip happen:
Fundraisers include splitting and selling firewood, participating in a Jog-A-Thon, launching a GoFundMe page, and serving morning coffee in front of the school.
Every other Friday, the 8th grade ventured into the great outdoors on hikes to learn about the local bioregion as well as attain peak fitness level for the Yosemite field trip. Hikes will take place at Applegate Lake, Jacksonville Woodlands, East Applegate Ridge Trail, Sterling Mine Ditch, Forest Park, and Grizzly Peak Trail.
